How Did a Psychology-Driven Redesign Drive a +29.6% Mobile Lead Lift?
- My Role: Lead Product Designer (Research, UI/UX, A/B Testing)
- Scope: End-to-End Redesign (Audit ➔ A/B Testing)
- Status: Shipped & Validated (Winner Variant)
- Users: High-Intent Mobile Travelers (70% of traffic)
1. The Friction: High Intent, Low Conversion
The Business Context
We operate on an Agency Model. Users don't "Buy Now"; they "Request a Quote" for luxury travel. For a $3,000+ transaction, the barrier to entry should be near zero. While 70% of our traffic came from mobile (Kayak/Google) carrying high intent, the legacy page treated mobile users like desktop users, resulting in a stagnant 6% conversion rate.
The "Leaky Bucket" Audit
My UX audit revealed that the interface actively fought against the user:
- Hierarchy Collapse & Rage Clicks: The hottest interaction zones were non-clickable price tags. The actual primary button faded into the background, performing worse than secondary navigation.
- Trust Deficit: Crucial trust signals were buried in the footer, invisible at the point of decision.
- Cognitive Strain: Disappearing inline placeholders and tiny touch targets caused constant input errors.
2. Information Gain: The Failed Hypothesis
The Failed Assumption
We initially hypothesized that adding more upfront context (detailed fare rules and urgency banners) would validate the high price tag before the user scrolled.
The Reality & Pivot
It created severe cognitive overload. Users ignored the text, and the extra scroll depth pushed the primary CTA out of view, lowering conversion. We pivoted from a "Data Collection" mindset to a "Value Exchange" mindset—stripping the noise to introduce an "Always-On" conversion path.
3. The Solution: Psychology-Driven Architecture
Feature A: The "Always-On" Conversion Path
Mobile users scroll to explore, often losing the CTA. I shifted the UI from generic browsing to personalized ownership:
- Sticky Mechanic: Implemented a persistent footer ensuring the conversion path is always within the "Thumb Zone," regardless of scroll depth.
- High-Contrast UI: Swapped the low-contrast brand button for Solid Black, separating the primary action from decorative elements.
- Ownership-Driven Copy: Changed the generic "Get Best Price" to "Get My Quote". This psychological shift created a stronger sense of ownership.
Feature B: Strategic Trust Injection
Mobile users are skeptical of high-ticket offers from unknown brands. I shifted trust from a localized distraction to full-page credibility:
- Anchoring Trust Above the Fold: Placed the Trustpilot badge (10,044 reviews) prominently on the first screen to validate legitimacy the second a user lands.
- Deprecating Distracting Media: Removed the legacy "actor-based" video. Data proved it was viewed as inauthentic and distracted users from the form.
- The "Proof Combo": Designed a scannable block combining Real Customer Reviews with Industry Certifications exactly at the Point of Action.
Feature C: Systemic Consistency & Accessibility (a11y)
I audited the interface against WCAG guidelines to eliminate "rage taps" and input errors:
- Usability Hygiene: Expanded interactive touch targets to 48dp+ and replaced disappearing placeholders with static, top-aligned labels. Users never lose context while typing.
- Visual Unification: Standardized input styles, spacing, and typography to match the core design system, making the page look professional and secure.
4. The Verdict (Results & Validation)
Business Impact
We ran a controlled experiment to filter out seasonal trends. The results fundamentally shifted our mobile revenue channel:
- +29.6% Uplift in Successful Request Submissions (Primary Metric).
- +70.4% Increase in CTA Clicks via the new Sticky Button.
- 11% Stabilized Key Event Rate (nearly doubling historic performance).
My Takeaway & Future Roadmap
On mobile, clarity is the ultimate persuasion tool. By removing friction and respecting the user's context, we didn't just fix a page – we unlocked a revenue channel.
While this phase successfully maximized volume (Conversion Rate), the behavioral data uncovered deeper opportunities to drive value. I have formulated a new backlog of hypotheses focused on cross-selling and dynamic packaging to increase Revenue Per User (RPU), which are currently in the validation pipeline.
